The Financial Inclusion Summit Series: Issue no. 12

From Asger Trier Bing, CEO, M-PAYG

M-PAYG is aiming to bring clean and affordable energy to +2 billion people currently stuck in energy poverty with no energy or very limited access.

We are working in Kenya, Malawi and partly Tanzania. Energy is not only light, but also access to information through a charged phone and powering of the agricultural sector as well.

Kenya is very advanced with regards to solar power, but the competition is fierce. Malawi has an electrification rate of only 10.8 percent. Yet, awareness about solar power is limited.

M-PAYG has partnered with leading banks and telcos in East-Africa. Among others: Airtel and M-PESA. Bringing renewable energy to power radio, fan, TV, lamps and charge phones is a success every time. Now it’s all about scaling the impact.

We collaborate with over 10 Danish hardware partners to develop a robust and affordable solar home systems for the African market.
